The following standards apply for the treatment of drinking water with lime:

· UNE-EN12518 “Chemicals used for treatment of water intended for human consumption: high calcium lime” (Harmonised European Standard).
· EN 12485 (European Standard) “Chemicals used for treatment of water intended for human consumption: calcium carbonate, high calcium lime and half burned dolomite. Tests methods”.

What are the typical impurities found in lime?

The impurities in limestone depend on the geology of the rock. They are inert elements embedded in the limestone and mainly consist of the following elements: SiO₂ (silicon oxide), Al₂O₃ (aluminium oxide) and Fe₂O₃ (iron oxide).
