Types of lime

The origin of lime used for soil stabilisation lies in the calcination of high-purity limestone (rich in CaCO3 higher than 98%) to produce calcium oxide in lump form (quicklime) which constitutes the raw material for manufacturing lime destined for stabilisation.

Slaked
Slaked lime, dead lime, hydrated lime or calcium hydroxide

Commercial name: StabyCAL CL90S
Pulverised
Quicklime or calcium oxide

Commercial name: StabyCAL CL90Q
By means of industrial slaking treatment (hydration) or pulverisation (by grinding) of the calcium oxide, we obtain the two basic products used for soil stabilisation with lime: firstly, slaked lime or calcium hydroxide, and secondly quicklime or calcium oxide. The physical-chemical characteristics of both products are regulated by the UNE 80502/03 standard of reference in regulations for Spanish road building (PG3 of October 2002). In August 2003 a CE mark for lime for the building sector was introduced. Calcinor holds this quality guarantee mark for all its lime products destined for soil stabilisation.

Milk of lime

By adding water to hydrated lime by means of special mixing devices, either directly on site or earlier in the industrial facility, we obtain milk of lime, a product that can also be used for soil stabilisation with lime.
