More than 30
years' experience endorses our GROUP’s history. In October 1974, the company FIDEL AZCABIDE, S.A. was established as a continuation of the industrial activity that had been initiated as an individual business by our founder FIDEL AZCABIDE OLAECHE.
During 1989, the circumstances that logically arose from opening up the share capital gave rise to a change in the original trading name of the company, which went on to operate under the name of CALCINOR, S.A.
The main milestones that mark our initial steps, from an industrial perspective, began in April 1973 with the ignition of the first MAERZ kiln at the Altzo facility in Guipúzcoa. The technological advance that this represented gave rise to considerable industrial development together with significant penetration in consumer markets. Thus, after the construction of two new MAERZ kilns in 1975 and 1980, this factory at Altzo achieved an annual production rate close to 200,000 tonnes of lime.
Once the factory at Altzo had been consolidated, major geographical expansion was instigated, both in terms of calcination activities and extraction and other transformation activities, with the gradual incorporation of the following companies into the Group:
