Manufacturing process

Extraction

The raw materials for our products are rocks extracted from mineral deposits (limestone, dolomite, gessos). At the site itself, research is undertaken to classify the different categories of rock in accordance with their physical-chemical properties. Once extracted from the site, the rocks are taken by diggers and dumper trucks to the crushing facility, where, once ground, they are classified and stored depending on their different purposes.

Calcination

Part of the extracted rock, selected because of its chemical composition and gradation, is calcinated at around 1,000 °C in different types of kilns, fed by a variety of fuels such as natural gas, coal, fuel, etc. The CO2 of the stone is given off to produce quicklime, either calcium (CaO) or dolomitic (CaO.MgO). The resulting lime grains are sifted, crushed or ground and stored in accordance with the characteristics requested by the client.

Calcinor is investigating the posible ose of alternative fuels to reduce CO2 emissions to the atmosphere.

Hydration

Quicklime can be hydrated, i.e. combined under controlled conditions with water. Depending on the amount of water added, and its anticipated use, we obtain slaked lime (Ca(OH)2 = calcium hydroxide), either in the form of a very fine, dry powder, or a 'putty lime' which is very highly rated for quality stuccoes and lime paints production. CALCINOR produces slaked limes of such quality that they are used for food products (lactates, stearates, powdered milk for babies).

Shipping

CALCINOR guarantees flexible, regular supplies to clients, whether in bulk, in sacks, in big bags or in containers. CALCINOR supplies its products either by river, sea, train or truck, in the different chemical and physical properties required by the use to which they will be put. Highly trained staff, fully aware of their commitment to our clients, ensure punctual delivery (often 24 hours a day). The staff can also take care of all administrative and shipping formalities.

Quality

CALCINOR’s priority is to satisfy the evolving needs of its clients, offering them specific products and services in accordance with the agreements established with them in terms of granulometric and physical-chemical characteristics. These parameters are controlled throughout the production process, from the selective mining of deposits through to the dispatch of the finished product. In the majority of its production centres, the CALCINOR GROUP fulfils the requirements of the ISO 9001 Quality System, and all its products have quality certification.
