Calcinor and Enagas Join Forces to Drive the Decarbonisation of the Lime Industry
A strategic alliance to build a sustainable and competitive carbon management model
Calcinor and Enagas have signed a collaboration agreement to jointly promote projects focused on CO₂ capture and responsible management, with the potential to reduce up to 900,000 tonnes of emissions annually. This partnership represents a firm step forward in decarbonising hard-to-abate industrial sectors, with the lime industry at the forefront.
The alliance aims to establish a comprehensive value chain for CO₂, spanning from capture at Calcinor’s production sites to transportation, liquefaction, storage, and export through Enagas’ regasification terminals. This end-to-end approach ensures safe handling and supports its reuse or permanent storage, aligning with Europe’s climate neutrality targets.
Long-term vision: innovation, technology, and climate commitment
Calcinor will lead the development of advanced carbon capture technologies tailored to its industrial processes, while Enagas will explore large-scale logistics and storage solutions. The two companies also plan to collaborate on European funding programmes such as the Innovation Fund and Projects of Common Interest (PCI).
“This agreement marks a new chapter in our commitment to building a more sustainable industrial model,” said Andoni Mendiola, Calcinor’s representative. “We are convinced that carbon management requires an integrated, collaborative approach to ensure real and scalable impact.”
Leading the transition toward a climate-resilient industry
This collaboration reinforces Calcinor’s longstanding commitment to sustainability. Through its focus on circular economy, energy efficiency, and carbon capture, the company is driving forward a transformation that balances environmental responsibility with industrial competitiveness.
In a context where urgent climate action is required, Calcinor continues to lead by example—supporting solutions that reduce emissions, enhance industrial resilience, and pave the way for a more sustainable future.
