PRECIPITATED CALCIUM CARBONATE PCC

Precipitated Calcium Carbonate (PCC) is the most complex product of all the products we produce, because it requires special controls and in-depth knowledge.

Cales de Llierca is the leading producer of coated and uncoated Precipitated Calcium Carbonate (PCC.)

Precipitated Calcium Carbonate (PCC) is the most complex product of all the products we produce: it requires special controls and in-depth knowledge of the different parameters involved in the precipitation reaction and subsequent treatments.

By modifying the above parameters, we accurately select the distinct features of our CALPREC® branded Precipitated Calcium Carbonate (PCC) making it specific each and every application.

The great advantage of Precipitated Calcium Carbonate (PCC) compared to Ground Calcium Carbonate (GCC) is the possibility of synthesizing particles with a specific crystalline form that are much smaller, and in turn narrower and more defined granulometric distributions.

These distinguishing features are very closely related to the physical properties that each formulation confers to each specific product. For example, the special microstructure and granulometric distribution of CALPREC PA® provides opacity and whiteness, significant features in certain applications such as in paint or paper production.  On the other hand, CALPREC PR® has a determined type of particle important in the rheological behaviour of sealants.

A comparison of Precipitated Calcium Carbonate (PCC) with Ground Calcium Carbonate (GCC), we find important differences:

  • It has smaller and more uniform particles.
  • PCC pesents a narrower and more stable grain size distribution.
  • Produces less abrasion.
  • Specific superior precipitated surfaces are obtained.
  • Ensures higher chemical purity.

Additionally, the big advantage of Precipitated Calcium Carbonate (PCC) is the possibility of having different crystalline forms, whose physical properties are adapted to each concrete application. For example, the opacity and whiteness of Precipitated Calcium Carbonate (PCC) are important features in certain applications (paint and paper), while in othersthe rheological behaviour is essential (sealants.) Therefore, the different types of Precipitated Calcium Carbonate (PCC) differ to ech other, and owing to their specific use in each sector must be specified in close collaboration with our customers.

Calcinor offers two main types of Precipitated Calcium Carbonate (PCC):

  • CALPREC PA® Non-coated Precipitated Calcium Carbonate (PCC).
  • CALPREC PR® Coated Precipitated Calcium Carbonate (PCC).
  • CALPREC PR-B® Coated Precipitated Calcium Carbonate (PCC).
