Calcinor pushes Descarbonization al the Industry Forum
On May 3, 2024, Calcinor actively participated in the “Industry Decarbonization Forum” held at the Energy Intelligence Centre (Spain). As a member of the European IS2H4C project and the “Basque Industrial Hub For Circularity” (BIH4C), Calcinor presented its innovative strategies for the decarbonization of the minerals industry.
Decarbonization: An Unavoidable Commitment
In his presentation, the Calcinor representative emphasized the importance of decarbonization as an essential priority for the industry. “We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint, not only in our operations but also to contribute to the global goal of carbon neutrality,” the speaker affirmed. This commitment aligns with the European lime sector (European Lime Association, EULA), aiming to become carbon-negative by 2050.
Innovative Strategies for Decarbonization
Calcinor highlighted several key initiatives that will help achieve the European decarbonisation goals:
– Carbon Capture and Storage (CCUS): Implementing advanced technologies to capture CO2 produced during industrial processes, store it safely, and reuse it by transforming it into other materials.
-Renewable Energy: Integrating renewable energy sources such as solar energy into operations.
-Energy Efficiency: Optimizing processes to reduce energy consumption and improve operational efficiency.
-Circular Economy: Reusing by-products and industrial waste to minimize environmental impact.
Collaboration and Leadership
The forum also served as a platform to strengthen collaborations between industries and academic institutions. Calcinor reaffirmed its commitment to working closely to share knowledge and develop innovative solutions.
A Sustainable Future
Through its participation in the European IS2H4C project and specifically in the BIH4C, Calcinor positions itself in the transition towards a decarbonized economy. The company will continue to invest in advanced technologies and workforce training to ensure a just and sustainable transition. Decarbonization is a global challenge, and Calcinor is determined to be part of the solution, leading by example and proving that a sustainable and environmentally friendly industry is possible. An example of this is GZS, a Calcinor subsidiary, which specializes in the management, treatment, and reuse of steel slag, refractory materials, and asphalt.
Calcinor’s participation in the Industry Decarbonization Forum is a proof of its commitment to sustainability and innovation. As 2024 progresses, Calcinor will continue to be a pillar in the path towards a net-zero future, benefiting both the environment and the community.
