THE USE OF LIME ON ROAD SURFACES AND HIGHWAYS – CALCINOR PARTICIPATES IN THE WORKSHOP ENTITLED “ROLLING TOWARDS THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY” AT THE MMH 2019.
On 16th October CALCINOR was present at this event as speaker in the technical session “Rolling towards the circular economy: The use of lime in the different phases of a project”. A workshop which included a presentation of the main applications that lime has in the different phases of the construction of a highway with an asphalt surface.
The use of calcium hydrate during the preparation of the bituminous asphaltic mix has been shown to provide improvements in its durability. In a similar way lime milk is crucial in improving the drainage of the adherence between the base and the road surface.
Hence, a process of circular economy can be observed, not only with an increase in the durability of the asphalt (up to 25%), but also through the use of materials already present on the trajectory of the proposed highway.
