Educational visits at calcinor: bringing industry closer to society

Calcinor visitas educativas

In line with our commitment to society and the development of technical and human talent in our environment, several Calcinor companies have recently welcomed students from various educational levels. These initiatives are part of our mission to bring the industrial world closer to future professionals and strengthen our bond with the communities where we operate.

Each visit offered a unique experience tailored to the profile of the participants, combining technical outreach, environmental awareness, and hands-on learning about real industrial processes.

In recent months, three of our plants have opened their doors to host educational and awareness initiatives that reflect our commitment to society and the environment.

Dolomitas del Norte: Blasting as a Practical Lesson

In collaboration with EPC, an explosives supplier, the quarry of  Dolomitas del Norte S.A. hosted a training session for students from the School of Mining Engineering in Mieres (University of Oviedo). The session marked the practical closure of a course unit in which students had previously worked with a 3D model of one of our quarry fronts using EPC’s specialized blasting simulation software.

During the visit, students witnessed a live blast on the same front they had studied, completing their training with a hands-on experience. The day also included briefings on safety protocols, preparatory tasks, and the technical execution of the blast.

Faculty from the Department of Mining Exploration and Prospecting attended the visit, along with technical representatives from EPC and a team of three professionals from Dolomitas del Norte’s management and operations departments.

This visit not only reinforced the students’ learning but also highlighted the value of collaboration between industry and academia to develop safe, efficient, and increasingly digitalized mining practices.

Ancasa: Energy and Innovation at the Service of Learning

Ancasa energia e innovación

On April 28th, the facilities of Andaluza de Cales S.A welcomed a group of third-year engineering students from the University of Huelva as part of their “Alternative Energies” course.

The students showed great interest in combustion processes and the transition to biomass as a renewable fuel. During the visit, they were able to see firsthand how these advancements are applied in an industrial setting where energy efficiency and innovation are central.

One of the highlights was Ancasa’s full commitment to using biomass as 100% of its fuel source, a consolidated strategy that reflects our dedication to sustainability and emissions reduction.

These types of visits help to strengthen ties with the academic world and give future engineers a practical and current view of the challenges of decarbonization, as well as the transformative potential of industry through sustainable solutions.

Caplansa: Planting the Seeds of Sustainability from an Early Age

Caplansa sostenibilidad

On May 30th, Cales de la Plana S.A. celebrated another edition of Tree Day with students from the Eduardo López Palop Primary School (5th grade). The event focused on environmental education and awareness, giving young students the chance to learn that mining and nature can coexist when managed responsibly.

Through various workshops, children discovered how minerals are used in everyday life, explored the machinery used in gravel pits, and planted trees as part of ongoing land restoration efforts.

These activities reflect Caplansa’s— and Calcinor’s— commitment to promoting a constructive and educational vision of mining that respects and protects the environment.

Committed to Society, Connected to the Future

These visits demonstrate Calcinor’s commitment to a more open, educational, and responsible industry. Whether by bringing mining closer to the classroom, promoting sustainable energy solutions, or fostering environmental awareness from an early age, we continue working to build strong connections with our surroundings, sharing knowledge, inspiring new vocations, and contributing to a more informed and engaged society.
